Important information about wheelchair services in Tower Hamlets
This notice is to advise you of upcoming changes to the NHS Tower Hamlets wheelchair service. From 01 July 2025, Whizz Mobility will no longer be providing this service.
The NHS has commissioned a new, expanded North East London wheelchair service, which includes Tower Hamlets. The new service will be provided by AJM Healthcare (AJM), who are the provider of the existing North East London wheelchair service.
AJM’s dedicated team will deliver the same comprehensive service as Whizz Mobility, including clinics, repairs and maintenance. Where possible, Whizz Mobility staff members will transfer to AJM on 01 July and continue to provide care in Tower Hamlets.
How does this affect me?
Responsibility for your care will transfer from Whizz Mobility to AJM on 01 July 2025. At the end of June, Whizz Mobility will securely transfer your personal data and care records to AJM.
If you have an appointment scheduled with Whizz Mobility before 30 June, please be assured this will go ahead as planned.
The new main site for the extended North East London service will be at Unit 18, The IO Centre, 49-71 River Road, Barking, IG11 0DR. However, please be advised that AJM will continue to deliver community clinics within Tower Hamlets after 01 July.
Do I have an option to stay with Whizz Mobility?
Unfortunately, no. Whizz Mobility will no longer be providing wheelchair services in Tower Hamlets from 01 July. Services will no longer be available at the Whizz Mobility locations.
What do I have to do?
You do not need to contact your GP. Whizz Mobility will transfer your records automatically to AJM, including your relevant clinical notes. At the end of June, AJM will receive your records and become responsible for the Tower Hamlets wheelchair service.
If you do not wish to have your information transferred, or would like to discuss this further, please contact Whizz Mobility as soon as possible before 30 June. You can call Whizz Mobility on 0208 223 8842 or email them at wheelchairservice1@nhs.net.
If your information is not transferred, this will mean you will no longer be a service user of the Tower Hamlets wheelchair service. The equipment on loan to you will need to be collected. Should you then require care from the wheelchair service in the future, a new referral would be needed.

Getting involved in the new service
Our North East London service has a service user forum, which is an opportunity for you to directly influence the development of your wheelchair service. The forum takes place quarterly (every three months) and is attended by service users, carers, family members, NHS representatives and senior AJM managers. You can attend in person or online via video chat.
If you are interested in joining the forum, please contact our partnership and engagement team at userforums@ajmhealthcare.org.
